EDGE Program

The EDGE Program is a supportive and intensive program designed to help young Nova Scotians, ages 18 to 26, overcome barriers to employment and successfully enter the workforce. As the Halifax provider, the YMCA focuses on your individual needs with a holistic approach.

The EDGE Program isn't just a job search; it's a comprehensive experience that supports you every step of the way. Here's what you can expect:
-
Mentorship and Support: You'll work with a dedicated YMCA mentor who will provide ongoing, one-on-one support to help you navigate personal and employment-related challenges. They're there to empower you and help you move toward self-sufficiency.
-
Job Readiness and Skills Training: We offer a variety of services to prepare you for a career, including:
-
Workshops: Group sessions on essential job-seeking skills like resume writing, interview techniques, and networking.
-
Pre-Employment Skills: Training in crucial "soft skills" like time management, conflict resolution, stress management, and financial literacy.
-
Job-Specific Skills: Support to gain certifications or specific training (like WHMIS or CPR) that are in demand in the local job market.
-
-
Real-World Experience: The program helps you get hands-on experience through:
-
Job Shadowing: An opportunity to observe a professional in a field you're interested in to confirm your career goals.
-
Wage Subsidy: For those who need it, the program can provide a subsidized job placement for up to three months, which helps you build a work routine, gain confidence, and secure a permanent position.
-
-
Ongoing Post-Employment Support: After you find a job, your mentor will continue to check in with you for up to six months to ensure you're settling in and succeeding in your new role.
Who It's For
The EDGE Program is for youth aged 18-26 who are job search ready but need more intensive support to overcome multiple employment-related barriers. It's specifically designed to meet the needs of those receiving Employment Support and Income Assistance (ESIA), youth transitioning out of care, and youth at risk of needing ESIA.
